Why Weddings Are My Favorite
I’ll let you in on a secret I hide from most people… or try to at least. I’m a softie for love.
Cuddles, matching pj’s, brunch dates - I love them all. When I was growing up though, it wasn’t often I ran into a man who was showcased these things in his life. It was more about lifting weights, drinking whiskey, working hard, you know, man things. I thought, “this is what guys do, so I’ll follow.” Now don’t get it twisted, I love all that stuff (except the gym, I kinda hate the gym, but I’m working on it). For a long time, I denied myself to be love and show love the way I do best, and I did it to uphold an image most people didn’t even expect of me. It got so deep that it started leaking into my work with photographing weddings. And then it got even deeper into my mind that weddings were dumb and people were wasting money on a big party that was for just one night… pretty crazy right?
Needless to say, it wasn’t until I met Hannah that my perspective started to shift. With her, I’ve never felt the need to uphold the false image of “I’m a man.” Over time, I began to feel safer and safer and eventually got to the point where I started being my cuddly self. I felt the magic of being like a child again and I began seeing the joy everywhere in my life. Eventually, that joy spread to my work with photographing weddings and I am so glad it did. Today, I feel more connected than ever with my couples I work with. It’s like I always knew them and their wedding day is a chance to reconnect and celebrate - and take badass photos.
